One Year Later: An Interview with
Jean Hale

Jean Hale and her four granddaughters moved into their Habitat home in January 2020.  She graciously took time to answer a few questions about how the first year in their home went!

Habitat: Before you moved into your new house, what were you most excited about?
Jean: Having a new home for my four granddaughters.  I wanted a safe house for them to live in.

Habitat: You closed on your house on January 29, 2020 and moved in that weekend.  What was moving day like?
Jean: Crazy and exciting!

H: What are some “firsts” that you enjoyed about your new home?
Jean: Having everything new!!  All my appliances to beds and bedding, etc.  (Note: Jean's friends and family came together to buy Jean all new appliances for her new home, which was a great blessing!)

H: What is your favorite memory made in your home in 2020?
Jean: My open house - meeting all of the Habitat people and guests.  It was beautiful!  Such neat people!

H: What was most surprising about your first year in your home?
Jean: Lower utilities and easier to keep up with housework.

H: Has homeownership lived up to your expectations or have you been disappointed by aspects of owning your own home?
Jean: It's great being a homeowner.  I haven't been disappointed at all.

H: If you could give one piece of advice or encouragement to someone dreaming of owning their own home, what would it be?
Jean: Go for it!!  It can happen!  I'm thankful I was chosen by Habitat to help me build my house.

H: Anything else you want to share about your first year in your new home?  Is there something you wished we had asked and didn’t?
Jean: We are just so happy to be here - couldn't ask for anything more.

Thanks much!
